Welcome to another Smart Academy post: English sayings 4 . Here’s a curious one:
“Beware of the Greeks bearing gifts”
It’s translation into Spanish would be:
“Cuidado con los Griegos que traen regalos”
Basically it is saying to not trust your enemies.
And in case you are wondering it isn’t that we have anything against the Greeks, no.
This proverb or saying makes reference to the Horse of Troy which the Greeks gifted to the Trojans during the war, and betrayed them by hiding Greek Soldiers in it.
Curiously there isn’t a Spanish version of this saying.
